A 1957 DHC-2 Beaver, re-engined with an electric motor, made the first successful flight from the Harbour Air Seaplanes terminal near Vancouver International Airport on December 10th. The flight was 16 km and took 8 minutes. Greg McDougall, CEO of Harbour Air, was pilot and sole occupant of the plane.
Earlier the same day, it had been flown about 60-90m from the same base.
The 750hp electric engine was manufactured by magniX in Redmond, Washington. The concept of a zero-emission Beaver has been in the works for 11 months.
